Palm Beach Typhoon 4, Florida Jr. Blades 3
Our first final for the day is in, and the Palm Beach Typhoon will keep their season going after winning 4-3 against the Florida Jr. Blades to stand at 1-1 in the USPHL Elite Florida Division double elimination tournament. Aydin Canbek scored twice and added one assis, and in net, Jasper Brophy made 32 saves on 35 shots for the Typhoon. For the Jr. Blades, Blake Moore stopped 26 of 30 shots. On Sunday, the Typhoon will play the losing team from today’s Tampa Bay vs. Florida Eels game.
Tampa Bay Juniors 4, Florida Eels 1
The regular season Elite Champion Tampa Bay Juniors are moving on to the Florida Division Championship round on Monday. They defeated the Florida Eels, 4-1, on Saturday. Veteran defenseman Carter Trussler led the Juniors with a goal and two assists, Paul Johnson scored the GWG and Shane Passaro made 23 saves on 24 shots for the win. The Eels will face the Palm Beach Typhoon on Sunday with the goal of getting another chance at TBJ. Sunday’s winner moves into the division final and the losing team’s season will be over.
Chicago Crush 7, Chicago Cougars 2
The Crush are moving on to the #USPHLElite Midwest Division championship round after a 7-2 win against the Chicago Cougars. John Martino and Joshua Yeates each scored two goals and added one assist, and four other Crush also had multiple points. Daniel Gurtner earned the win in net with 11 saves.
Fort Wayne Spacemen 3, Metro Jets 2 (OT)
Hayden Stratman scored the Elite Spacemen’s overtime game-winner to give the Spacemen a 1-0 series lead in their quest to win a Midwest championship. Brendan Kusbel made 30 saves on 32 shots for the win, and on the other side, the Jets’ Brendan Dreisbach made 64 saves on 67 shots. Game 2 is at 12:30 p.m. EST. on Sunday.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 7, Rockets Hockey Club 2
The Knights are headed to the Elite Atlantic Division championships after a 7-2 win over the Rockets that gave them a 2-0 series win. Jacob Chow scored a goal and added two assists, and a trio of Knights had a goal and an assist – Sean Stewart (GWG), Sam Silvestri, Ilya Buranov and Anthony Tallant. Anthony Shaw had 21 saves on 23 shots.
P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 5, Elmira Impact 2
The Jr. Islanders took a 1-0 series lead against the Elmira Impact to kick off their playoff run. The Jr. Islanders defeated the Elmira Impact on Saturday night, 5-2. Andrew Jozwicki scored twice, Nicholas Morolla posted a 2-1-3 line, and Aiden Ortiz and Jake Strong also had multiple points. Dominik Feiler stopped 44 of 46 shots for the win, while Elmira’s Andrew Coston turned away 35 of 39. Game 2 is Sunday beginning at 11:45 a.m.
