USPHL Elite Players Of The Week: North Region

Games of Feb. 1-7, 2023

North Division

Summaries by Joshua Boyd

Forward: Matthew Domanchuk, Islanders Hockey Club

Domanchuk (‘04/Oklahoma City, Okla.) put together three games with a line of three goals and four assists for seven points, as the Islanders went 2-0-1, part of an overall 10-0-1-2 point-earning streak that has them just seven points short of the division lead. For Domanchuk, he improved to 38 points in 36 games this season, his first with IHC.

Defense: Justin Pniewski, Islanders Hockey Club

Pniewski (‘04/North Haven, Conn.) posted four assists during the Islanders’ first three games of February, and helped the Islanders earn five very valuable points. Pniewski’s own points took a jump and he stands seventh in league defenseman scoring with 28 points in 36 games.

Goaltender: Benjamin Remillard, Northern Cyclones

The Cyclones are first in the North and are on a six-game winning streak because they have depth at every position. Along with one of the league leaders in Maximilian Pierce, Remillard (‘05/Sherbrooke, Que.) has put up his own fantastic season-long performance, going 8-0-1-0 and on a seven-game winning streak. He recently stopped 26 of 28 shots against the Junior Bruins to kick off February. Along with Pierce and Remillard, Michael Anstey makes it a 1-2-3 punch combination, as Anstey is 9-0 this season.

Mid-Atlantic Division

Summaries by Marlee Bulman

Forward: Michael McGowan, New York Aviators

Right wing Michael McGowan (’03/Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a solid 3-5-8 in three games played, a big pickup over the weekend after the Aviators took a tough shutout loss to P.A.L. This Saturday and Sunday, McGowan helped the Aviators take the dubs over Elmira with decisive scores. He’s hoping for revenge against P.A.L. on Sunday, and that he and his teammates can keep the ball rolling right into the South Shore Kings Presidents Day Showcase (Feb. 18-20).

Defense: Jack Moskowitz, Rockets Hockey Club

Three-year Rockets veteran Moskowitz (‘02/Staten Island, N.Y.) had a great weekend with the Rockets, posting a goal and an assist in two games, including a win over in-state rivals the Jersey Hitmen and an OT loss to P.A.L. The Rockets are going to need everything from every player this weekend as they face the division-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Moskowitz has a career-best 19 points this season and is at 37 points for his Elite career.

Goaltender: Christopher Lucente, P.A.L. Jr. Islanders

Lucente (‘05/Centereach, N.Y.) put up a fantastic 0.98 goals against average over 122 minutes, including a fantastic 75 saves on 77 shots, for a 2-0 record and a .974 save percentage. This included a 35-save shutout against fellow Long Islanders the New York Aviators. Hopefully Lucente can keep the streak going for P.A.L., who go back up against the Aviators on Sunday after first facing the Hitmen.
